VAFI has three competitive categories divided by the age of the author(s): MINI (for children under 10 years), MIDI (for children from 11 – 14 years) and MAXI (for youth from 15 – 18 years).
Films will be competing for first prize - a Diploma and Statue Vafi, which was created by a young academic sculptor Azra Grabčanović and four equal second prizes in each category - Diploma. The festival will take place at two locations - in the Multimedia Centre KULT and in the Herzer palace. VAFI 2011 had 145 films from 20 countries submitted or in total more than 500 minutes, from which 87 of them entered the official competition or about 300 minutes in total. Film will be shown in 5 official projections. Selectors were Juliana Kučan and Milan Trenc, people who are for many years engaged in an animated films, especially with children.
The awards will be decided by an international expert jury consisting of Dan Bennett (USA), Vera Vlajić (Serbia), Ana-Maria Vidaković (Croatia).

Dan Bennett is also and the special guest of the Festival – he is the founder and producer of Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival, partner Festival for VAFI 2011.
Official screenings will be held in the Multimedia Centre KULT, where will be arranged and two screenings of animated films for children from partner Festival (Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival), screenings of animated films for adults taken from the archives of ANIMAFEST - World Festival of Animated Film in Zagreb (the program is compiled by Margit Antauer Buba) and the projection of animated films by

ušan Vukotić to whom is this year's VAFI dedicated. Dušan Vukotić is author of the animated film Surogat (1961) for which he in 1962 won the Oscar and at this time he remains the only Croatian Academy Award winner. Surogat is also the first non-American movie that won an Oscar. In the Herzer palace will be organized an exhibition in honor of Vukotić. Part of the VAFI 2011 program will include lectures by Josh Staub, animator from Disney Animation (Bolt, Tangled) and Dana Bennett, founder and producer of partner Festival. Lectures will be in English, and one of them will be

pecially organized for tudents within which the students will present and Luminus Studio from Zagreb that has made many advertisements, including opening trailer for two Oscar awards.
 For children Josh Staub will hold a workshop (drawing characters). The program is free and open to the public!

VAFI will in cooperation with the ICRC Varaždin county collect charitable contributions for the victims in Japan, given that the partner of VAF 2012 should be - Japan. |
